Hello everyone, I am planning to buy some furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series but already have other pieces in the living room that are not from this series. My question is: Can IKEA Brimnes furniture be combined with other furniture without causing visual or functional issues? I am especially wondering if the designs or materials are coordinated well enough to work together, and if there are usually any challenges with color tones or dimensions. I look forward to your opinions and experiences.
A good question. First, a few thoughts: One of the best ways to create visual harmony despite different furniture styles is to use unifying elements such as textiles (cushions, throws), lighting (lamps with matching designs), or small accessories in similar colors and materials.
In this case, it is advisable not to leave the white surface of the Brimnes furniture isolated, but to reflect it elsewhere in the room, for example in a wall color, shelving, or frames. A rug that picks up tones from the furniture can also help create a smoother transition. It is also useful to deliberately highlight the different surfaces in order to use the contrast as a design feature rather than conceal it.

I wonder if this is more a matter of personal taste and the desired spatial feel. Technically, everything is possible, but the contrast can be quite strong depending on the combination.
That sums it up well. A deliberate stylistic contrast can be appealing, but only if carefully planned. Just don’t timidly neutralize it.

- color and material differences are taken into account,
- connecting decorative elements are used,
- and the room is viewed as a whole.
A perfect visual match is rarely necessary; usually, a harmonious balance is sufficient.
