Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding the use of accessories for my Pax wardrobe from IKEA. Is it possible to retrofit accessories from the Komplement series into my existing Pax wardrobe without issues related to fit or stability? I am thinking of adding drawer inserts, shoe racks, or clothes rails from the Komplement line to my wardrobe. Are there any experiences or tips on what to watch out for, and whether all parts are compatible—especially with older Pax wardrobe models? Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!
May I add a slightly more technical perspective? It’s not only the basic fitting of the components that matters but also the load distribution and type of fastening.
Pax complementary accessories are designed for modular plug-in and rail systems. This means:
- The spacers and drilling points for the accessories are precisely defined.
- Older Pax models from the early years (before around 2008) sometimes had different hole patterns or fastening clips, so complementary parts from that generation may not fit without modification.
- Complementary drawers are designed to bear the weight of clothing, not heavy contents like tools or electronics.
- When retrofitting older cabinets, it is advisable to measure the drill holes or even add additional fastening points yourself, taking care with the material and stability.
I’m interested: How old exactly is your Pax wardrobe? Then I might be able to give you specific advice on compatibility.

My wardrobe was purchased in 2011, so about 7 years ago. It should be a model with a depth of 58cm (23 inches), but I will measure it again to be sure. The idea of checking the drill holes myself is very helpful. The distances are not that clear in the manual anymore, so I wanted to make sure I don’t order the wrong accessories.

- Measure the width and height of the shelves to choose drawers or other inserts that fit exactly.
- Make sure your wardrobe also has the typical hole spacing for shelves and accessories (usually every 3.6 cm (1.4 inches), which is common in IKEA Pax).
- If you want to add drawer inserts later, check that the inside of the wardrobe has the appropriate rails or grooves; otherwise, you will need a mounting kit.
Conclusion: Your model is quite compatible, and with some precise measuring, you can easily purchase and install the matching Komplement parts.
