Hello!
For aesthetic reasons, I would like to wall-mount a Besta shelf measuring 60cm x 40cm x 192cm (24 inches x 16 inches x 75 inches). Does anyone know if this is possible and what needs to be considered?
Thank you!

IKEA-Experte12 Dec 2011 16:39Are the side walls also made with egg crate panels? They are significantly thinner than the top and bottom. The floors can also each support a load of 30 kg (66 lbs). A perforated pattern in a hollow panel seems odd to me. That’s why I assumed the sides are made of solid chipboard. If they are hollow, I would also prefer to avoid it.

I haven’t heard of that before.
I just copied this from Besta:
Product description & dimensions
Back panel: hardboard, foil
Main parts: particle board, hardboard, foil, filling made from recycled paper (honeycomb structure)
Top/bottom panel: particle board, hardboard, foil, filling made from recycled paper (honeycomb structure), polypropylene

Well.
Hello!
I have been a loyal customer of Ikea for many years. Everything I have purchased so far has always been absolutely fine and I still like it a long time later. As an art historian, I bought the BESTA shelves (item number: 701.340.44) and 2x (item number: 801.340.48) for my study.
My books are particularly heavy. I hadn’t read that the shelves are only rated to hold a maximum of 30kg (66 lbs). As a result of overloading, the side panels of the shelves have now bent outward. The larger shelf has pushed the two narrower ones on the right and left, causing a gap from top to about halfway down between the shelves to become visible. Although I immediately reduced the load, the panels remain bent. My questions:
- Could I have prevented this problem by using the recommended wall anchoring?
- Is there any way to straighten the outer panels of the shelves again?
- Does a maximum load of 30kg (66 lbs) per shelf mean that additional shelves can’t be bought and used beyond those originally included?
Thank you very much for any help!
Phil

Luninator16 Jul 2012 13:43If you were to attach a metal cross brace to the back wall at mid-height, I think it would help prevent the exterior walls from bending. Of course, that is not what it was originally intended for...
Hopefully your floors won’t give way under the weight of the books^^
