We are planning to wallpaper ourselves for the first time soon. A few days ago, we visited a home improvement store to look at wallpapers. There are many different types, such as non-woven wallpaper, textile wallpaper, textured wallpaper, and so on. But which type is the easiest to apply for beginners like us? I have heard that very thin wallpapers can be more difficult to handle and tend to tear easily. Is there anything else we should keep in mind? After all, the result should look good.

hi Jack,

I believe that non-woven wallpapers are generally more suitable for beginners than woodchip wallpapers. However, non-woven wallpapers also tend to be a bit more expensive. When it comes to paste, you need to make sure it is compatible with the type of wallpaper you have chosen.

Best regards,
Mara 🙂

I have never wallpapered myself, I usually paint, but what do the people at the hardware store say about it? I believe you can also find something on this topic under do-it-yourself. However, I have never read about it either.

Do the wallpapers look different visually?

Hi Jack,

If this is your first time wallpapering, it won’t be that easy. But I definitely wouldn’t recommend choosing wallpaper with large patterns, because you’ll have to cut each strip separately to make sure the pattern matches up. Stick to simpler wallpaper designs, then not much can go wrong. Always make sure to hang the strips straight.

Hello everyone,
thanks for your tips. I’ve already checked out some do-it-yourself resources. I’m also leaning towards non-woven wallpaper because it’s a bit sturdier and, according to the store clerk, can be removed in whole strips. I’ll skip the large patterns at first. We’ll see, maybe I’ll develop a knack for wallpapering. Thanks for the advice!
