For my new build, I want to install an outdoor camera for entrance monitoring instead of a door intercom or video door phone system. I don’t need an intercom function but want to be able to see who is at the door when needed. I also do not require continuous recording of the outdoor area. Video door stations from well-known doorbell system manufacturers are too expensive for me. The camera should be installed discreetly in the entrance canopy, similar to recessed ceiling lights. It should be possible to check who is at the door via iPhone/iPad when necessary.

What costs should I expect?
What should I consider here?

IP camera for outdoor use. Affordable costs.

What will you see then? The visitor’s hairline or bald head?

The canopy is 3m long (10 feet) and should, of course, not be installed at the height of the entrance door but mounted to the side.

You still have to try a lot of different options... and I can’t recommend a specific brand or model here.

Depending on the lens, the camera may show everything or nothing at all right outside your front door...

I can recommend products from Digitus here. The cameras are only of moderate quality, but the entire system works great. Remote access via app (for example, on an iPhone, within the Wi-Fi network or via mobile internet) is possible (live view, playback of recorded events). At the same time, you can have the event files uploaded to Google Drive for backup. It works perfectly for me.
