Hello everyone,

I have a shower on the ground floor. Unfortunately, after about a day, it starts to smell badly. In my opinion, this happens more often in winter (when the underfloor heating is on, but well).

The only thing that helps is to turn on the shower and let the water run for 2 to 3 minutes, which I find excessive.

When I run the washing machine in the adjacent room, I also get the feeling that the smell returns.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do? I have no more ideas. I have attached a few photos.

I’m not a plumbing expert, but as I understand it, the end piece of your plug, which you’re holding in your hand in the third picture, should always be submerged in water at the bottom. However, your water level is too low or the plug is too short, causing the end piece to hang in the air and allowing sewer odors to pass through unimpeded.

This issue tends to get worse when the heating system is running because the water evaporates faster. The connection with the washing machine could be explained by the fact that during its drain cycle, the resulting negative pressure (lack of or insufficient venting of the drain system?) is sucking the water out of your shower trap.
