We are currently looking for an earthworks/civil engineering company and have received two different statements regarding this. The home builder (prefabricated house manufacturer) says that the earthworks/civil engineering company must calculate the measurements, meters, square meters, and cubic meters themselves based on the drawings, construction documents, and soil survey. The earthworks company says it is common practice for the home builder to provide these details.

In your opinion, who is responsible for this?

A civil engineer who takes pride in their work will only accept their own calculations and planning based on survey data, foundation recommendations from the geotechnical report, and construction drawings.

Any civil engineer who expects this from the general contractor either lacks expertise or has too many projects.

Any civil engineer who wants this from the construction company either doesn’t know what they’re doing or has too many projects.
Thank you. :-) These are exactly the difficulties I was hoping to avoid with a prefabricated house. Everyone says something different, and as a non-expert, I feel at their mercy. We’ll see if we can find someone to take on the earthworks and underground construction.

Our civil engineer also handled that part for us.
