Hi,

I might have been a bit too thorough when stripping the cables. In any case, now I probably have about 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) of cable sticking out of the thermal insulation. How can I extend them or have an electrician extend them?

Remove the thermal insulation around the cable to a depth of about 10cm (4 inches), then strip the cable, connect Wago connectors, attach a new cable section (50cm (20 inches)), and replace or foam the thermal insulation.

If done properly, everything will be hidden behind the lamp bracket and won’t be visible.

If you do it well, everything will be hidden behind the lamp fixture and won’t be visible.

I would then put it inside a small waterproof junction box. That should keep you on the safe side.

The electrician came, slightly opened up the insulation, placed WAGO connectors on it, pressed the connectors into the insulation, extended the cables, everything hidden behind the light fixture. All good.

The main thing is that everything is properly sealed. Otherwise, you might end up with a short circuit due to water or, even worse, water penetrating the insulation.

Let's hope that no water can seep in during rain and that the fixture is properly sealed. However, a professional is responsible for their work and will know exactly what they are doing.

I certainly hope so. By the way, what about the old ETICS anchors in the insulation? They stay in place, right? If they were properly screwed in, they shouldn’t damage the insulation...
