Hagiman20007 Apr 2016 15:30My wife got in touch with our future neighbor. They have already ordered and paid a deposit for their kitchen (completion of our semi-detached house is July 2017). Now my wife wants us to buy the kitchen as well. I think it’s a bit too early.
Of course, you should know the kitchen layout before submitting the electrical plan, but there are still several months until then. If I am supposed to submit the electrical plan after the shell construction, that would be around the beginning of 2017.
She said that kitchen deals are currently very good. When I occasionally browse through the weekly newspaper ads, I always see offers from one of the many kitchen studios and furniture stores.
I can also imagine that nowadays you can buy a kitchen for €10,000 (about $11,000) and have it installed only after more than 12 months. What are your experiences with this?

There seems to be a fantastic offer available anytime, day or night, all year round, but it’s always replaced by the next one. I never fall for that. "Sign now, the offer expires tomorrow!" Yeah, right!!!

nordanney7 Apr 2016 16:31We also bought our kitchen more than a year before moving in – by the way, it was more than twice as expensive as what you were aiming for. So this is not unusual even for expensive kitchens. However, the prices are ALWAYS GREAT – every showroom, furniture store, etc. usually gives you a 99% discount on custom-designed kitchens (excluding electrical, countertops, sinks, installation...).
Buy whenever you want. But it’s nice to look forward to things like the kitchen when you purchase it early. The selection process itself is simply great. Basically, it’s a case of “building the house around the kitchen” later on.

My wording was unclear; we bought it in September 2015, and the house will be erected in September 2016. So it’s actually more than a year earlier. And the right timing is never really there—you have to feel comfortable with the offer and your gut feeling; then you buy or you don’t. The kitchen is usually ordered about 10 weeks before anyway.
