The fact is that a floor will ultimately look different in person than it does in online pictures. The images often differ from reality.
You should definitely see the floor in person, or at least look at a sample of the flooring you plan to choose. That way, you can be sure before making a decision. From what I have seen online, there are some good deals, especially on brand-name products. These are not cheap because they are poorly made, but because there is less middleman markup, and the products don’t have to be stocked in large quantities. Affordable products at hardware stores or DIY centers are usually no-name brands. With those, you can never really be sure about the quality. Think of issues like "wear layer peeling," "swelling of the MDF substrate in laminate flooring," or "gap formation"...

jamesbond-13 Jul 2008 09:03Hello Simon,
Did you find what you were looking for online or at the hardware store? Online shopping can be convenient, but I like to see the products in person before buying. It would be great if you could let us know where you ended up finding what you needed.

Urs1988-125 Feb 2015 05:47Hello,
I wanted to ask this question and saw that it already exists. I am also looking for laminate flooring. At first, I checked online shops and was surprised by the low price. I called the online shop and they said that the supply chain is shorter. The laminate comes directly from the manufacturer to us. This way, storage costs and middlemen are eliminated.
However, I decided to go with a specialized retailer because I want to see and feel the laminate in person. So, I believe I am on the right track, even if it costs a bit more.
What is your opinion on this?

I agree, I also need to see it in a specialized store. Not only see it but also touch it. While the internet offers good pictures, what is actually delivered remains uncertain. If you don’t like it, then the hassle with returning it begins.
