ᐅ Burglary Protection for Side Entrance Doors and Hörmann Garage Doors

Hello everyone,

We have a fire door between the garage and the house, which unfortunately does not seem to offer very good burglary protection. Before replacing it, which would be quite expensive, the idea came up to secure the access to the garage instead. In principle, that would actually be even better. We have a Hörmann sectional door, an NT60 door, and a simple window. A grille can be installed on the outside of the window. Are there any recommendations for this?

The door was already considered relatively secure. Possibly an RC2 upgrade set could be installed. Would you do that?

The weak point, in my view, is still the NT60 door. Are there good upgrade kits available that you can install yourself with some skill? Hörmann’s triple locking system is quite expensive. If there is no alternative, is it even possible to retrofit something like that? If yes, how would it roughly work?

Best regards and thanks in advance

The police recommend it as well... do they all have no idea? 😉
They recommend at least RC2 as a minimum, or alternatively even RC3 (each without the N rating). At least, if you want to get advice from the police here from me. But that’s only part of it. They also recommend many other components, such as lighting, simulated occupancy, and so on.

Although an increased number of mushroom head locks (very inexpensive) already causes most break-in attempts to fail (roughly every second attempt is abandoned).

How frustrating it is when a burglar trying to break into the garage finds no direct access, whether secured or not. They simply won’t bother.

Weak points are usually areas not visible, for example, on the side of the house or garden sides that can’t be seen. Regardless of how well secured they are, the weak spot is often the lack of visibility from the street or public areas.

And that’s why the question

Does anyone happen to have experience with my questions?

And yes, not just experience, but professional experience in the “industry.”

That’s true, but I don’t think it’s much of a struggle through the garage door 😉 Especially nowadays with e-bikes (which we don’t have) and other valuable items stored in the garage. That’s why I’d like to make access to the garage as difficult as possible. A garage door with anti-lift protection is probably fine at first. The back door and windows are more likely weak points. Regarding the door, has anyone here retrofitted a triple-point locking system from Hörmann?

For the window, you could install a grille on the outside.

I don’t think Hörmann side entrance doors can be upgraded to triple glazing later on – in our case, triple glazing was ordered through the general contractor, but a single glazing unit was installed. Calling and discussing retrofitting options with the field representatives didn’t help at all; a completely new door had to be installed.
