Hello,
my wife and I moved into our new house earlier this year. However, we have now realized that the sunlight on our terrace is too intense, and we would like to find a long-term solution to this problem. Our first thought, of course, was: We need a parasol. But... we have already had many parasols in our apartment and unfortunately broke quite a few. Now we are considering installing an awning. Initially, that seemed like a brilliant idea, but then we realized, first, that we don’t really know much about awnings, and second, that we’re unsure whether they can be installed easily.
As the latter question suggests, we would like to ask: How is an awning installed? How much does an awning cost? Which manufacturers are reliable, and which ones should we probably avoid?
We appreciate any answers! 🙂

It is attached to the wall, usually with two or three brackets. However, whether and how this works depends on the type of wall!!! A very good cassette awning, electrically operated, costs roughly 1000 euros per meter in width.

Beforehand, you should check how and when the sun shines. A standard awning does not protect against low-angle sun, but there are awnings with extendable valances.

Manufacturers include, among others, Weinor or Warema.

And, additionally, if needed, a so-called "side awning." 😉

Hello Felix (23),

we have our awning from Erhardt and I’m satisfied with it. Otherwise, I can only agree with the other comments. Such an awning is quite an investment, and you should clearly know what you want. Electric motor or not. With valance or preferably without?

I think for some things you might not be familiar with yet, it’s really best to get good advice from a manufacturer of your choice. Although sometimes hearing two different opinions can also be helpful 😉

We bought our awning this year from Rollo Rieper. They had a huge selection at fair prices.
It was clearly stated which mounting materials were needed for different wall constructions, and you could order these accordingly at the same time.

We are generally very satisfied with our full cassette awning (manual crank operation), but it becomes less effective when the sun reaches a certain position because it can’t be adjusted.
This is no problem for us since we usually don’t spend all day on the terrace, but if you have different needs, you should consider whether this is acceptable for you or if an adjustable large cantilever umbrella might be more suitable.

Regarding the price:
Our full cassette awning, manual crank, 5 meters (16 feet) wide, 3 meters (10 feet) projection, cost about 1,500 euros without installation!
