Hello everyone,
I’m currently considering which building systems to implement and have a few questions.

Electric roller shutters:
Since I’m already planning to use KNX, does it make sense to also wire the roller shutters based on the KNX system? The main requirements are simply open/close and time scheduling. So, conventional wiring or KNX— is there a significant cost difference?

KNX:
I want to dim and schedule several lights (about 10 units on the ground floor).

I would like to monitor window contacts as burglary protection.
Part of the sockets should be switchable.

Is it possible to switch off all devices? Or would that be a major effort?

Heating control with time scheduling.

What are your thoughts? Additionally, I’m planning to install multi-core cables to allow for potential future expansions.

Is the cost effort very high for my requirements? What else would you recommend implementing?

Do you have any tips? I still have to discuss everything with my electrician.

Thanks.

If you plan to use KNX anyway, it often ends up being cheaper for roller shutters than conventional systems with group switches, etc.

Turning off all appliances is not a problem with KNX.

Heating control, on the other hand, is rather pointless unless you are installing radiator heating and not following energy-saving regulations, which is hardly feasible nowadays.

What you should implement? Have the green cable installed in every socket box, and connect all outlets and heating points with 5x1.5 mm² (5x1.5 mm² (AWG 16)) wiring.

There are already many suggestions about electrical installations and related topics in the forum—just search for them.

We have similar requirements that we are currently implementing with Loxone. Check out our blog, where the latest post lists all the cables and switches we installed separately, along with a price list – this might help you roughly estimate the costs. We are investing around €7000 for home automation so far, but this only covers the essentials. To have everything set up exactly as we want, more extensions and sensors will be needed, which are too expensive for us during the construction phase. Overall, it will probably cost us about €10,000.

I am currently at the same point and have purchased the book: "Home Automation with KNX, DALI, 1-Wire and Co.: The Comprehensive Handbook. The Standard Reference for Future Smart Home Owners." I can highly recommend it; everything is described in great detail, especially if you want to do some planning yourself...
