Hello everyone,
we have a plot of land under consideration where a basement for a single-family house was built in 2017. Construction was then halted, and currently only the basement exists. However, the slab on top of the basement is somewhat too small or does not fully meet our expectations for the layout of the ground floor.
Is it generally possible to extend the slab at this stage? Has anyone had experience with something like this?
Alternatively, we could remove the basement and start from scratch. How much would you estimate the costs for that?

Hello everyone,
Hello
We are considering a plot of land where a basement for a single-family house was already built in 2017.
That’s great.
After that, construction was halted and now only the basement exists. However, the slab on top of the basement is somewhat too small or does not fully match our ideas for the ground floor layout.
That’s less than ideal. Whether this can be solved cannot be judged without plans and photos.
Is it generally possible to extend the slab now?
There is no such thing as impossible. You’re talking about the slab and only the basement first?
Does anyone have experience with something like this?
Your chosen builder should be able to answer that.
An alternative would be to remove the basement and start over.
How much do you estimate the costs for that? Most expensive solution. Crystal ball? 50,000 to infinity.
That probably doesn’t make financial sense, unless the land is free or this is your dream project. Please provide more information. We don’t know the plot and can’t read your mind.
Will you get the plans from the previous owner?
Thank you for your responses.
So far, we have only received the basement floor plan from the owner. We expect to get more plans over the weekend. Since everything is still pending, I don’t want to post the floor plan here. I quickly drew a simple sketch to show roughly what it looks like and what we would like to expand.
What information about the plot could be helpful?
The plot has a slope of 1° and the building area is large enough to increase the footprint.
The zoning plan requires an open building layout.
We want to first assess for ourselves whether such an extension would be generally possible, and of course, what costs might be involved.
Edit:
@hanghaus2000: I only just saw your answers in the quoted text… the sketch probably won’t help much then 😀 I thought it was just about understanding the situation at first…
What is the ceiling of the basement called? Isn’t that the slab? Ultimately, it’s about what the house will be resting on (in this case, the basement ceiling).

The plot has an area of 676 m² (7269 sq ft) with a floor area ratio of 0.4.
The basement is approximately 63 m² (8 m x 8 m / 26 ft x 26 ft), and the ground floor currently has about 73 m² (785 sq ft).
The building limit line is about 3 m (10 ft) down in my picture.
This means our extension would need to be approximately 8 m x 3 m (26 ft x 10 ft) minus about 4 m x 1.5 m (13 ft x 5 ft).
