I recently purchased a property in Bielefeld, NRW.
On the plot, there is a (dilapidated) garage with a carport next to it, which is securely attached to the left garage wall. Since renovating the garage no longer seems practical, I would like to demolish it and rebuild it, mostly as a DIY project.
The adjacent carport is not currently being used as such. Therefore, I thought about widening the garage a bit (cars used to be smaller...) and building a storage shed / bicycle shed on the carport’s space. This would also be firmly connected to the garage wall, just like the current carport. From the carport, only a canopy a little over 1m (3 feet) wide would remain on the left long side of the garage.
There are existing documents and permits for the current garage and carport.
The footprint used on the property for this remains unchanged and is about 39m² (420 sq ft). The proposed changes themselves involve a footprint of slightly less than 30m² (320 sq ft).
My question is whether a building permit / planning permission is required for this project?
Unfortunately, I haven’t found a clear answer in my research and hope to benefit from the community’s collective knowledge.
