I hope I posted this topic in the right category?

A few months ago, a friend told me that not only diesel fuel was stolen from construction vehicles, but entire pallets of building materials as well. At the time, I thought it was a joke. Now I am personally affected and am at a loss for words given such audacity.

We are currently building a house, and the shell is already up. We didn’t think twice about leaving all the tools and building materials (bags of cement, glass wool insulation, bricks, etc.) stored inside the shell.

Now it’s gone... stolen during the night... and nobody saw or heard anything! 😡

Hello

There is currently a large construction site active on our street. You can see the site from our house, but the direct view is blocked by a tall stone wall. So, theoretically, someone could clear out the site during a night-and-fog operation without much trouble, as nothing is properly secured. There are fences in place, but they can be easily moved aside with a simple maneuver. A construction site thief would definitely find this situation appealing >>>>>>

Friends of ours were able to solve the problem (as Rufus already mentioned) by hiring a private security service. Although it’s not exactly cheap, it apparently also reduces the insurance premiums for construction insurance. The security guards checked the construction site several times during the night, so they were present and likely had a deterrent effect in advance. In any case, the construction was completed without further incidents.

Hello! Yes, I think these issues are well known everywhere. I have also often heard about them from acquaintances... it’s unfortunate, but what else can you do except take out insurance?! I would definitely recommend doing that!!!

Hello! Having insurance is a good idea! You can also hire security services to guard the construction site and prevent theft. For example, I know Group 4 (Austria/Carinthia).

This is so frustrating! People are incredibly bold, it’s unbelievable! This happened to some neighbors of mine. In the end, everything that could be taken was removed and locked away in a private storage facility. Everything else was insured.

Yes, I’ve also heard about these issues from reports by various people—neighbors, friends, colleagues, and so on. This seems to happen quite often. What I’ve heard most frequently so far is that insurance against theft at the construction site has been taken out.
