We are 53 and 51 years old, with grown children living independently, and want to take on the adventure once again.

110 m² (1,184 sq ft), single-story on a ground slab, basement substitute room including a separate utility room.

Who has been in a similar situation and what were your reasons?

In our new housing development, there are more people over 50 than under 50. Many are already retired, so over 60.
I am under 50, but my husband is over 50.
What is it about the age that makes the situation special, that you ask?

Good question.
I always thought that you should have finished building your house by the age of 40 at the latest.
Some people in my circle of acquaintances shake their heads about it. The kids think it’s cool.

This house will be designed solely for our needs. The kitchen with dining area will be 50m² (540 sq ft) and so on. The rest will be absolutely standard. We won’t make any compromises or concessions — it’s the “old folks’ place,” basically.
Is it okay to be that selfish?

There will be a highlight. A raised garden bed on a rail system that can be moved right up to the kitchen. It will amaze her.
