Connilein5 Jan 2021 20:25Hello...
This question has been on my mind for a while... Is it allowed to build houses during the coronavirus pandemic? Our construction is scheduled to start on January 11, and I’m a bit worried that the pandemic might cause delays. Has anyone built a house during the pandemic, or were there any issues or restrictions?
Kind regards

The construction industry is allowed to operate. What homeowners occasionally report are problems or delays with material deliveries, or situations where companies have reduced staff due to quarantine or sick leave.

You might need to check if doing some of the work yourself could conflict with any rules (multiple households, curfews from 8 p.m., travel limits over 15km (9 miles) from home, and whatever other nonsense they come up with).
And this corona situation won’t last much longer. It will get better anyway after Easter because of the weather, and by next autumn, the vaccination will be widespread enough that there won’t be many issues left.

As previous speakers have already mentioned, construction is allowed and ongoing. There may be shortages of materials or manpower. Restrictions on your freedom of movement and closed hardware stores... at least pickup should soon be possible again (at least in BW).
This won't be over that quickly. I wouldn't expect warm temperatures to make a difference. Even in Asia, there are high infection rates despite high temperatures....
Nothing will change until vaccination coverage is sufficient.

FoxMulder246 Jan 2021 11:20We are currently building; our house assembly took place at the beginning of November. So far, there have been no significant delays due to COVID-19. The heating system installer contracted COVID and had to quarantine for two weeks. However, this was compensated for by other trades.
In general, it seems to me that our general contractor is currently allowing a lot of buffer time in the schedule. The plan is also designed so that usually only one trade is working inside the house at the same time.
For self-build houses, there might be more issues at the moment. Private construction helpers count as private individuals and are subject to COVID regulations. Actually, you are now only allowed to have one helper inside the house. 😳
But yes, the situation with DIY stores is frustrating. I also had to order everything online, and then you end up waiting again...

There is no better time for homebuilding than during the coronavirus pandemic. Almost everyone is working from home or on reduced hours and busy working on their houses like crazy. This saves a lot of money! Additionally, there are many government subsidies that make building a house more affordable 🙂
So, get to work!
