Hello everyone,
we have planned a new project for the spring.
We want to build our own grill. But we want to do it ourselves, so it should be as affordable as possible.
Has anyone here done this before and can give us some tips? And which instructions did you follow?
It would be great if you could help us out.
Of course, we still have time before we want to start, but as the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm.
Has anyone here ever built a grill from brick themselves?

Personally, I prefer cooking with a wood/charcoal grill and will probably never get a gas grill, whether it heats up faster or not. It’s not just about the food. That can be seen both ways.
On weekends, when I have plenty of time, I mostly use the Weber charcoal kettle grill (we even received one as a gift from the house-building company when we moved in ).
However, if I want to quickly grill a steak in the evening, I definitely prefer my gas grill because it reaches the desired temperature much faster.
If I want to add some “smoky flavor,” I just put a smoker box on the grill. After grilling, the box burns out completely, so it’s clean without having to handle hot ashes...
If I manage to get it done this year, I’m planning to add a smoker so the other two grills in the garden won’t feel so lonely.
Let’s see what my wife thinks about that...
Best regards,
Dirk
We are quite similar to Dirk in this regard.
We like to grill often. Last summer, we added a kettle grill to our equipment. However, it wasn’t from the big W, but one from R in the Allgäu region.
As experienced campers, we also own a gas grill from Cramer and know the difference. Especially at garden parties late into the evening, when the men want a quick steak or when we don’t feel like lighting charcoal, the gas grill has always proven to be a useful addition. Since I am the grill expert in the family, the Napoleon grill is my dream. However, we first need to build a garden shed in the spring because the garage is already full!
I’m already looking forward to the start of the grilling season!

Thanks a lot!
Construction expert Sorry, I didn’t know about the links...
Thanks @EveundGerd, at least this is a start
Hmm, the thread is almost 7 years old now, but thanks Erica for bringing it up again 🙂
We still have a pallet of facing bricks and already three grills in the garage. Nevertheless, I’m considering, just for fun, using the bricks to possibly build an outdoor grill area.
Unfortunately, this thread only led to discussions about different types of grills, but didn’t answer the original question.
Any ideas or practical tips from experience? 🙂
