Hello everyone, I am currently planning to build an IKEA Metod kitchen island myself with seating and plenty of storage space, and I am looking for good ideas, tips, and templates.

My goal is to create a kitchen that is both functional and visually appealing. It is especially important to me that the island offers enough drawers and cabinets to store all kitchen utensils, while also including a comfortable seating area for at least two people.

I am working with a footprint of about 180x90 cm (71x35 inches), and I have seen that Metod modules allow quite flexible designs. Perhaps some of you have experience combining different base cabinets and suitable countertops to achieve a comfortable seating height without causing discomfort for those seated?

Which modules work best for storage, and how have you usually designed the seating areas? What types of countertops and stools fit best? I appreciate any ideas, including those related to stability, fixing, and electrical connections.

A proven option is to create the seating surface with a slightly overhanging countertop piece, which is supported on one side by Metod base cabinets and on the other side by table legs.

I would like to add that when using overhanging countertops, you must pay close attention to stability.

In my case, an additional metal support proved effective, which not only provides strength but also looks modern.

Also, for storage design, I used full-extension pull-outs because they can be completely pulled out, which is especially practical for kitchen islands that have access from multiple sides.
