Hello, I would like to build a very affordable wooden house myself without too many extras. Can someone with experience share some information? It should be around 70 sqm (750 sq ft). My main goal is to build cost-effectively, so just to set up the basic structure. What type of wood should I use, where is the best place to get it, and how would your own planning look like? I imagine something like in my pictures.

Residential house, holiday home, or garden shed?

I wanted to live in it because I got a plot of land, so a kind of holiday home would be great, about 70 m² (750 sq ft). Basically, I'm just interested in building with wood and how to do that best. Insulation and interior finishing won’t be a problem.

So, do you have a structural engineer on board to ensure compliance with those requirements and with the energy saving regulations?

And do you personally have enough time to manage the construction yourself? Like over the next 3–4 years?

I have a structural engineer on board, but how can that possibly take 3-4 years? My father built his wooden house in 2 to 3 months. It’s not meant to be anything large or massive, just something smaller.

Why don’t you ask your father, since you already have experience in the family?

For many here, your plan probably does not seem feasible, so it is pointless to spend time discussing it.
