Good evening everyone. We’re not quite sure what to do. We own a small house and would like to have a prefabricated garage built or build one ourselves at the end of our garden. I have already received a few quotes, which seem reasonable so far. However, since the access path to the garden is quite narrow and the truck would have to navigate a turn, no representative can fully guarantee that installation will be possible.

Do you know of any prefabricated garage suppliers who are experienced with such issues, for example using a mobile crane, and who provide professional advice you can fully rely on? Or could I build a garage myself? Ideally without a complicated building permit / planning permission process—like a ready-made garage plan with structural calculations that can be submitted for approval and then built independently? I believe some prefabricated garages come with simplified approval procedures as well?

Best regards.

A Juwel prefabricated garage was just delivered with a crane in our neighborhood, but I can’t say how far the crane had to lift the garage. Considering the size of the crane, it was probably around 20m (65 feet).

Would a steel garage be an alternative? It can be assembled on-site by a professional.

Steel garages come in small individual parts. This is always possible and saves money as well as the need for a large crane, which would cost a lot. At that point, you might as well have the garage built with masonry.

We have the same issue and will have a storage room measuring 3x4m (10x13 feet) built with masonry, and a carport in front of it. In my opinion, these prefabricated garages are too expensive and often too small.

An alternative to steel garages is the MULTIBOX system garage.

The combination of a stable, rot-proof synthetic fiber made from recycled polyurethane (cured) and technically dried KVH timber framing as a solid and highly durable structural solid wood construction promises not only an extremely stable structure but also long-lasting durability.

- MultiTherm fiber panels - rot-proof
- Facade with a brush plaster finish
- KVH timber framing - solid structural timber that is massive and extremely load-bearing
- Block made of MultiTherm fiber

Thanks again to everyone for the help. Yes, I have also considered a steel garage. How are they in terms of durability and warranty? Are there no issues with rust? Best regards, Axel
