Hello everyone,

We are currently looking for exterior wall lights for our house.
It is important to us that they are up/down lights and as bright as possible.
Does anyone have any recommendations or which lights do you use on your house wall?

Best regards

I have to admit, we don’t have any lights at the front door yet, and we haven’t missed them in 5, uh, 6 years. Thanks to the street lighting and the lighting on the stairway next door, it’s surprisingly well illuminated.

Somehow, it often feels cozier without harsh lighting. In summer, the lights are almost always off, and in winter we do use them more often, but they don’t need to be as bright as a reading area.

What kind of lamps did you use for the two areas?
For the entrance, something simple and visually fitting from the hardware store with dusk and motion sensors.
On the cable at the terrace, we had a wall light which we removed because it was rarely used.
We have now repurposed the wiring for the patio roof with an electric awning. The roof has LED lights—of course, eight in total—but these are also used very rarely. Usually, candles or rechargeable modern LED lamps are enough.
We also have lighting on the side of the house. Ikea lights work fine there. The switch is operated from inside.

Philips Hue Impress. Dimmable, with 16.7 million colors. You can integrate it into your smart home system with OpenHab, but it can also be set easily via Bluetooth, and the lamp remembers the last setting.
Installation is fiddly; it’s best to do it with two people.

There are also actuators for flush mounting, so the lamp can remain in standby for automation even when the wall switch is turned off.

So far, the lamps have been rare in stock, but it is summer and it doesn’t get truly dark until around 10:30 p.m.

The biggest advantage is that you don’t have to decide on the light color before purchase or experiment with different lamps afterward.
You can program the lamp, for example, to operate at full brightness with cool white light at dusk, but only 50% brightness with warm white light in the dead of night. Of course, this is done only via the smart home system.

And you can also integrate it into your alarm system...
