Hi everyone,

Which type of masonry block would you recommend for a standalone double garage?
Thermal insulation value is not really a priority, more the cost...
Aerated concrete blocks, clay blocks with pores, or rather lightweight concrete blocks?
Aerated concrete seems to be the easiest to work with, right?
Wall thickness would be 240mm (9.5 inches).

I appreciate any tips.

Suitable answer to this question: It depends.

What really matters?

If insulation value is not a priority, sand-lime brick is a good choice, as you can also hang something heavy on the interior walls without special anchors. Additionally, sand-lime brick is affordable and it doesn’t matter if it isn’t plastered immediately (weather-resistant).

The most cost-effective option is usually concrete hollow blocks – cheaper than sand-lime bricks.
I just checked my price lists.

Sand-lime bricks: 30€/m²
Concrete hollow blocks: 10€/m²

30 euros is quite expensive, even at Bauhaus the 17.5cm (7 inches) version costs about 25 euros per m² (per square meter), and at the wholesaler it is probably under 20 euros.
