Hello, we have the following problem. During the construction of our new house, some roof tiles had to be cut, which resulted in a large amount of tile dust accumulating on the roof. Because of the dust, the roof now appears reddish instead of dark gray. The construction company says this issue will be resolved after the next rainfall. Can this be relied upon, or has anyone experienced a similar problem before?

We recently had the same issue. Unfortunately, it’s hardly avoidable. The problem we encountered was that the dry ridge, meaning the ridge tape, didn’t stick to the dirty roof tiles. The tiles were not cleaned beforehand either. Don’t worry, the rain will eventually wash away the loose dust over time. However, small stones may end up in the gutter or drainage channel, and it might take a few heavy rain showers for them to be washed out. I wouldn’t worry too much about that. However, you should check the adhesive areas of the ridge tape to see if they were properly prepared.

It was the same for us. Don’t worry. The (heavy) rain washes away the dust. There was actually a lot of dirt in the gutter. We just removed it ourselves.

How are you currently managing drainage? Directly into the sewer? Cistern? Soakaway? Temporarily through hoses?

Keep in mind that dust can significantly clog the pipe, causing water to splash out of the downpipe during heavy rain. This happened to me after weeks of sunshine and considerable dust buildup on the construction site. Quickly, the temporary DN110 pipe was almost completely blocked.

If necessary, flush it thoroughly.
