Hello,

we are planning to buy a new bed again. Box spring bed or solid wood bed? What would you recommend?

With a solid wood bed, we can choose the mattress ourselves, while with a box spring bed, everything is coordinated. What are your experiences and opinions about these types of beds?

What do you think of the Emma box spring beds or mattresses? Or the Emma wooden bed?
Again: every body has different needs. You could also check out Stiftung Warentest, but coming here with a product you know from advertising? Visit one or more furniture stores and try them out: no one here can tell you exactly what you need.

I would never have a box spring bed in the bedroom, for example. I love my adjustable slatted frame (head and foot section).

Hi,
we faced the same decision some time ago.

Box spring bed: very comfortable, everything coordinated, gives the typical “hotel bed” feeling. Downside: you are less flexible if the mattress or topper doesn’t suit you.

Solid wood bed: very durable, sustainable, and you can freely choose both mattress and slatted frame. It requires a bit more research but is usually more customizable and often cheaper.

We chose a solid wood bed because flexibility was important to us. In the end, it depends on whether you prefer a ready-made comfort solution or want to combine things yourself.

We were advised against a box spring bed. I don’t remember exactly why, but in the end, we bought a solid oak bed frame from a local store, with an adjustable slatted base for my wife’s side. We also got two mattresses measured and customized to fit our bodies. I also find it looks nicer than a box spring bed, but of course, that’s a personal preference.

The height was adjusted a bit higher. The size is 160x220cm (63x87 inches), which is an extra-long size. Although it wasn’t exactly cheap at €5500, such mattresses do cost a bit more. Since I work in shifts, I was okay with spending more on this.

The bed frame will probably last forever, and we’ll just replace the mattresses as needed.

I hope that the original posters have since found a suitable bed. Our box spring bed is now two and a half years older and still very comfortable.

Our box spring bed is now about 7 years old, and we wouldn’t want to be without it for a day. We also chose a special mattress with varying firmness levels. It still fits perfectly today, and we enjoy "our bed" every day.
