we are planning to buy a new bed again. Box spring bed or solid wood bed? What would you recommend?
With a solid wood bed, we can choose the mattress ourselves, while with a box spring bed, everything is coordinated. What are your experiences and opinions about these types of beds?

We just ordered a box spring bed two days ago. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to mention the brand – they’re Dutch, but they sound Swiss.
I have always had a good bed with slatted frames and mattresses. My husband, typically Australian, is used to box spring beds.
My mother has had a box spring bed for a while now, and during visits (before we lived here) we had the chance to sleep on it for several nights. We slept very well on it, so that’s why we decided to order the bed ourselves.

I like box spring beds for the simple reason that you’re less likely to bump into something painfully. Otherwise, everything actually speaks in favor of a nice solid wood frame and a separate mattress. But after constantly experiencing pain, I finally had enough and got myself a box spring bed.

What would you recommend to us? Box spring bed or solid wood bed is just about the appearance. The only important and relevant factor is the mattress.
And for that, I would always choose a waterbed – something I have done for almost 30 years now. Currently, I have one in a "box spring bed" frame, but I’ve also used it in a solid wood bed. It has almost exclusively advantages:
- body temperature adjustable (for both partners)
- much more hygienic and better for allergy sufferers
- ALWAYS the right ergonomic sleeping position. If you gain or lose about 3kg (6.6 lbs), the mattress can be perfectly adjusted simply by adding or removing water (liters)
- mattress lifespan often 15–20 years
- cheaper than conventional beds over time
- and no, you don’t get seasick or constantly rocked. You can choose the firmness – although longtime waterbed users prefer the “rocking” effect, which allows for a more natural lying position
