Hello,
I am looking for a box or basket that fits into the IKEA Kallax shelf unit. It should also fit when a door is mounted on the compartment.

Does anyone have any ideas? The basket doesn’t necessarily have to be from IKEA.

Thanks!!

Maybe take a look at new Swedish design, they might have something there?!

I once bought some seagrass baskets from a furniture store, which I placed inside the Kallax shelf. There is actually quite a wide selection available. However, I don’t have doors on mine, and it was important to me that the baskets look good visually. Is there a glass door on yours, or is it opaque? If it’s opaque, then it doesn’t really matter what the basket looks like. You can probably find something online as well—just make sure to take measurements beforehand.

Do you have the measurements? So, width excluding the hinge and height? Then just start searching online. For 30cm x 30cm (12 inches x 12 inches) minus the hinge, a DIN A4 size should fit. And then an estimated height of 12cm (5 inches). You can compare that well on Amazon or elsewhere. Ikea has the white ones with holes at the front. Those should fit as well.

Hello,

if you are looking for a box or basket for your Kallax shelf, keep in mind that the doors reduce the depth by a few centimeters. Many standard baskets or inserts then often no longer fit properly, especially if they have fixed handles or rigid edges.

Flexible boxes made of felt or fabric without fixed handles work best. They are easier to insert and don’t get stuck. It is important that you measure the internal dimensions after installing the door – usually about 33 x 33 cm (13 x 13 inches), but this can vary depending on the Kallax version, so it’s better to measure precisely.

Hello,

from the manufacturer’s perspective, there is one important point: Ikea’s Kallax doors vary slightly in depth and mounting depending on the production year and series. Therefore, every Kallax shelf unit, even if it looks identical, should be measured precisely to the millimeter before buying baskets. For those who prioritize long-lasting durability, it is best to choose boxes with reinforced bottoms. This is helpful when the shelf is used frequently and the basket is pulled out often. In terms of color, a calm combination is recommended for Kallax, otherwise the shelf with doors and baskets can quickly appear cluttered or chaotic.

One more detail: for those who are very meticulous, pay attention to cleaning – felt can attract dust, and fine fabrics tend to collect lint, especially on white Kallax shelves. If you want to make full use of the storage space, you can find manufacturers online who offer custom-made solutions based on your own drawing – although more expensive than standard products, the shelf will always look tailor-made.

Best regards
