ᐅ Poor Workmanship When Replacing a Front Door – Is This Acceptable?

TaehtiGood morning everyone,
we recently had a new front door installed.
The consultation and process up to the installation went really well.
Unfortunately, the full payment was made upfront (I know, that’s a common mistake and pretty foolish).
Now the company is being difficult about fixing the defects. I admit I was a bit picky about some things, but I’d rather report everything at once than forget something and get upset later.
The company says the damages should be visible from a distance of 3 meters (10 feet), but I believe I use the door and notice the issues when standing right in front of it. Especially since the previous door was in perfect condition after 50 years and had no gaps between the door and the wall.
Why are they measuring from that distance? The door should be adjusted to fit the house, not the house to the door...
The handle was damaged and was sanded down on-site by the company with the comment “it will wear off.” However, the dents are still visible, it wasn’t properly fixed, and the color change is definitely noticeable. Also, a pane of glass was broken during installation and replaced on-site. You can still see this by the damaged seal.
After the door was rubbing against the upper latch (see photo), it was also sanded down, and now the door has play when closing.
Photos attached 🙂
Maybe someone has an idea?!
I really don’t want to involve an expert, insurance claim, or lawyer to resolve this.
Thank you very much!

Unfortunately, you made a good "handle" with the company. "It will wear off" is similar to saying "you get used to it."
Defects must be properly repaired. Period. End of story.

What exactly do you expect from legal protection insurance and a lawyer? No judge will decide that the company has to provide a new front door costing several thousand euros. You might get a small discount. The "gap" can probably be sealed, and the facade repaired...
But since you have already paid everything... it can only be done through a lawyer, which can take time and will initially cost you money.
