guggi75-12 Apr 2013 14:07Dear forum members,
We would like to retrofit our Schenker VR90 shutters with motors. The dimensions are 2.5 m x 2.4 m (WxH) for one, and several other Venetian blinds measuring 1 m x 1.5 m (WxH). Our local shutter installer quoted us 600 Swiss francs per shutter for installing the motors and 350 Swiss francs per window for the electrical connections.
That seems very expensive to me, and a neighbor (an electrician) told me that everything is already prepared (the cables have even been installed), and only the connections need to be made. He said he would do the wiring in exchange for a beer (not sure if that means one beer per window… 😀). Now I am considering installing the motors myself. Does anyone here have experience with this? Which motors would you recommend?
Thank you and best regards,
Patrick

MODERATOR3 Apr 2013 17:26Hello guggi75,
There are special motors designed for Venetian blinds. The motor power you need depends on the width and height of the blinds, as well as whether you can install the motors yourself, which depends on your DIY skills. If everything is prepared, it should not be a problem.
Various manufacturers offer retrofit motors. Since I do not want to recommend a specific one here, you can find a manufacturer yourself by searching online with the keywords "motor for Venetian blinds."
Alternatively, you can contact a local electrician who can also procure and install the motors.

Hubertus-13 Apr 2013 19:50Order the motors and have the beer enthusiast install them. If he is an electrician, he will know what he is doing. Also, think about the control system. Simple on/off, or with power protection, sunlight control, timer control, and where the switches will be located.

Sebastian-122 Sep 2013 20:00...I forgot two things:
27a: Tighten the set screws on the shaft adapter
And the disclaimer: This is not an official Schenker manual, just my personal experience report. There may be issues with the warranty, etc.
You shouldn’t be completely inexperienced if you want to follow this guide. And of course, I am not liable for any damages.
I hope this guide helps some of you.

Roli_SG-18 May 2014 07:30Good day everyone
This is a really great description and actually fits my requirements perfectly. Can someone give me a tip on where I can source the materials under the conditions mentioned? Everywhere I inquire, they also try to sell me the installation..
Many thanks and best regards

Sebastian-18 May 2014 14:45Hello Roland
I can tell you where I got the motors from. There was also a link in my post, but it was removed.
I will send it via private message.
