Since our house will be built on a slope and only about 2/5 of the basement will be embedded into the hillside, we can probably build with the black tank waterproofing system. Are the cost savings significant? What are your experiences/opinions regarding black tank and white tank waterproofing?
Hello,
our general contractor and the shell builder both said back then that they basically only build watertight concrete basements nowadays. It’s faster, and if you want to properly waterproof a masonry basement, it wouldn’t really be any cheaper either.
At least I can believe the point about speed—the exterior basement walls went up noticeably faster than the masonry interior walls.
In addition, if you have a masonry basement, you will probably need drainage. Here, it is prohibited to discharge drainage water into the sewer system. This effectively means you are required to have a watertight concrete basement anyway.
Best regards,
Andreas
