Hello,

can someone explain to me why this is sometimes done and sometimes not?

Not many people use bitumen torch-on roofing membranes anymore; usually, they just install a Katja membrane before the screed and leave it at that.

Who is Katja?

In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have invested money in those bitumen membranes and should have had fun with Katja instead.

Ah, thanks.

We are also waterproofing the foundation slab with a bitumen layer. It’s probably done by the roofer...

Guess what "Katja" is made of.

Whether self-adhesive or heat-welded is up to the installer’s calculation. The technical advantages of self-adhesive membranes only apply to substrates that cannot tolerate the heat from welding.

By the way, this work is straightforward. Anyone interested in doing it themselves can easily spend a weekend on it.
