Hello,
I have an old garden shed with a gable roof (tongue-and-groove softwood), about 15m2 (160ft2), typical for a garden shed with a slight slope. Next to it is a coniferous tree (resin), and there is hail up to the size of car dents.
Idea: Apply two layers of thick bitumen coating, for example Bostik BLOCK B525 TERRA 2K+ fiber-reinforced bitumen thick coating, then install interlocking roof tiles (sometimes called "beaver tail" tiles).
I know these thick bitumen coatings are usually intended for basements. However, they are generally quite affordable (which is why the companies naturally want to sell me their roofing products that are two to three times more expensive). I understand that normally bitumen membranes are installed underneath, but I don’t feel like doing that as it seems too much effort for me.
Is there an inherent problem with this approach? Heat in summer? I don’t walk on the roof during summer anyway.
EPDM seems to me somewhat sensitive in regard to the resin and hail.
It would be interesting if someone here has experience with thick bitumen coatings, especially regarding summer exposure in other sunny or heat-exposed locations.
