Hello dear community, the side garage walls were shuttered and concreted on site. Insulation is not planned. However, I thought that a bitumen coating and membrane were necessary. According to the general contractor, this is not required for concrete walls, only for masonry units such as bricks. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Allthewayup8 Mar 2024 21:43My garage is also built without waterproofing. However, the walls were constructed starting from the concrete slab. Therefore, there is a bitumen membrane between the slab and the brick wall to act as a moisture barrier. On the outside, only a dimpled membrane and a gravel strip are installed. Honestly, I never questioned this. We used C30/35 concrete with a slightly higher cement content, or so I was told. These numbers, however, only indicate compressive strength. I should check which exposure class was specified.
Can you ask to see the delivery note for your concrete?
