LIDI6Hello everyone,
I recently bought a BILLY shelf unit from IKEA and noticed during assembly that some of the original parts, such as the connector fittings and shelf supports, were either not in perfect condition or missing. Now I’m wondering if anyone has experience with cheaper alternatives to these original parts. I’m especially interested in whether replacement parts from other sources are similarly sturdy and easy to install without compromising the safety and durability of the shelf.
Are there any tips on where to buy such alternatives or perhaps proven DIY solutions? I would really appreciate any experience or recommendations, as I want to complete the shelf as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Does anyone have experience with cheaper alternatives to these original parts?Yes, just check at hardware stores for furniture connectors and plastic brackets. Often, there are comparable parts that fit. Pay attention to the dimensions and material thickness.

Just look for furniture connectors and plastic brackets at the hardware store.Sure, that’s practical! When I was assembling my BILLY shelf, I used shelf supports from an affordable brand – they fit well and hold securely without any problems. And if you’re already working on it, a bit of improvisation with the right screws can work wonders 🙂
Just a tip: Make sure the replacement parts aren’t too loose, otherwise the shelf can wobble easily. A little craftsmanship goes a long way.

Spare parts from other sources are similarly sturdy and easy to installThe stability is usually good if the dimensions are correct. Cheap parts from IKEA alternatives and hardware stores mostly use standard sizes. Just make sure that the color and material quality are at least acceptable.

If you want to save money but still value stability, you can definitely handle it easily. Just make sure to get the right screws and brackets along with it! 👍
So, don’t be shy – grab your screws and good luck with the assembly! It’s going to be great 🙂
