Karsten3221 Jan 2017 14:23Hello everyone, I wanted to start a discussion on the topic “Billy bookshelf DIY assembly help – how to organize the process best?” Specifically, I plan to assemble a Billy bookshelf myself, but I’m curious how others approach this to make the process as efficient and stress-free as possible. What preparations are important? Do you use special techniques, like sorting the parts, marking them, or certain tools that are really helpful? And how do you avoid common mistakes that unnecessarily delay assembly? For me, a well-structured start is key, especially when working alone. Looking forward to your tips and experiences!
From my point of view, it is important to carefully choose the installation location in advance to ensure there is enough space. I also recommend going through the instructions step by step before starting. Small tools like a small box for screws or a magnetic pickup tool can often help prevent losing parts.

Sort all screws and wooden parts in advance and lay them out according to the instructions. That’s a good point—I noticed the same last time; it got quite confusing. For better organization, you might also consider preparing the screws in small bags or labeled boxes.

Does anyone have tips on how to get the shelf straight and stable on the first try?

My tip: a simple spirit level, and if you don’t have one, a smartphone with the right app will do. If you don’t test it, you’ll quickly lose patience. These are basics you can’t outsource.
