Hello

Are there good retrofit smart home systems available?

We bought a semi-detached house as a new build from a developer.

The electrician declined to work with KNX and said he is not familiar with it and won’t do it.

My question is: Are there good retrofit options for smart home systems that don’t require opening up the walls (that is not an option)?

Which systems would you recommend?

Functions:

Light control
Window sensors (preferably invisible)
Shutter control
Music control
Video doorbell

It should definitely be possible to create scenes and rules.

I’m also open to other suggestions for useful functions I may not have thought of yet.

To be honest, I don’t understand the argument that with KNX you always need to call someone when something doesn’t work.

As @Mycraft said, that’s the case with everything. What happens if the Wi-Fi doesn’t work? How many people do you think call a service technician? Or if the toilet flush stops working, or when connecting a washing machine?

My mother (71 years old) was visiting for a few days.
Her exact words: “What a beautiful house, but I just can’t handle all the technology.”
Do you really think she would be able to manage any other technology on her own compared to KNX?

Admittedly, it often seems like KNX is treated as the holy grail and everything else is rubbish. That certainly isn’t the case.
But there are so many misconceptions that simply don’t hold up.

But here, too, no price advantage from Loxone, so why? Why settle for second place when you can get first place for exactly the same money???

Then I’m glad I chose second place.
I know KNX installation and I was clear: that’s not what I want. Button panels on the wall, and so on—even though there are now options with displays.

As mentioned, KNX does have advantages, yes.
But it didn’t convince me.
And that’s why I chose Loxone.

The push buttons with the small keys, where you have to make sure to press the correct keys, especially in the dark.

Hmm... the goal of home automation is actually to avoid using push-buttons as much as possible.

That's true, but blinds, central control, and turning off the lights still need to be implemented somehow.

The discussion is basically pointless.
There are KNX enthusiasts who swear by KNX and praise it highly.

Then there are those who also look beyond that.
I checked out Comexio, but it didn’t really convince me; the system still feels somewhat vague and the design is, well, so-so. It primarily uses EnOcean, which is a good idea in principle, but due to the lack of standards, it’s a bit problematic.

I’m someone who prefers to stick to one manufacturer or at least use manufacturers that are recommended.
I’ve already had a lot of experience with that, and it should actually work.
