Hello everyone,

I am currently planning our single-family house. Everything is going well so far – however, I am still a bit uncertain about the kitchen. I wanted a bay window facing east because the view in that direction is unobstructed for kilometers (miles) and will surely stay that way for the next 20 years.
Our architect suggested a pointed bay window (I’m not sure what the official term for this is).

I was also thinking about extending it straight out (so rectangular), but I’m unsure whether it would look good since the windows couldn’t be floor-to-ceiling but only half-height (due to the countertop). What do you think? Do you have any alternative suggestions?

Overall, the house is a mix of traditional and modern (pitched roof, but with two full stories).
If you need more information, just ask.

Best regards and thanks in advance for your suggestions,

I would definitely recommend going for a square shape! How wide should or can it be? Because instead of windows and filling the entire space with kitchen cabinets, you could plan a door or floor-to-ceiling window there and only place cabinets along the side walls. As already suggested, I would also replace the pantry with a tall cabinet wall. You can easily box that in with drywall.

At least you’ve taken the step to upload the entire floor plan, even though we still have to imagine the windows. But we don’t yet know the view (site plan / aerial photo / pictures?). The shape here is more pointed than rounded, but whether it might actually be a classic risalit is hard to judge without seeing the overall context. The 45° “set square bay windows” are totally retro—unlike the slanted interior walls that are very 1980s, these bay windows date back to a style popular around 1990. Back then, people did this to show they were stylistically “ready for the year 2000.” That would give me pause today. Stustustustudioline from L’Oreal.

You do realize that in this kitchen, you should stylistically wear a beryl- or blackberry-colored blazer with a rectangular silhouette cut and exaggerated shoulder pads, right? Themed party only works if it’s fully consistent!

Yes, the windows have not been planned yet. So far, this is only an architect's draft.
But thanks for your input!

I think it’s more likely a draftsman from a construction company rather than an independent architect.
If that’s the case, I would recommend posting your entire project here so you can avoid mistakes in advance.
Since you don’t have an excessive living area, the hallway/entry area seems too large to me compared to the size of the living rooms.

He is an independent architect. That’s why I don’t want to share the full plan here without consulting him first.

My goodness... this really clings to the 1980s... a bay window and then a corner bathtub on top of that
