Hello,

as always, we need to finalize the bathroom planning at very short notice for our building project. Our floor plan is very similar to this one, with the restriction that a toilet needs to be placed at or near the position of the bathtub.

The builder has proposed the following layout (it looks a bit cluttered because the original design is underneath). I still don't like it because I don’t see any practical space for one or two bathroom cabinets. Also, I think the entrance area to the shower might get wet, and I find the numerous bulkhead walls somewhat unnecessary.

I have planned another design that I hope the MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) engineers can implement as well. I would really appreciate your feedback on it. Thank you very much!

The idea behind the design is to realize a walk-in shower and protect it somewhat from water splashing out with a small glass panel around the corner. I would make the wall between the shower and toilet half-height and add another glass panel above it, possibly a bit longer. Do you think this could work?

Bathroom upper floor plan: attic bathroom with shower, two washbasins, and doors.

Bathroom floor plan: bathtub on top, wash area in the middle, shower below, cabinets on the right.

… then at least mirror the unit Toilet/Shower

It wouldn’t be preferred, but it would be acceptable as a fallback solution.

The bathroom dimensions are 3.51 x 2.95 meters (11.5 x 9.7 feet), the lower distance between the wall and the door is 1.94 meters (6.4 feet), and the window is 1.51 meters (4.9 feet) wide. The toilet would need to be placed on the left side, and some full-height partition walls on the left side would also be necessary for venting the wastewater pipe and the exhaust air.

We recorded that option as well, but then you end up showering towards the wall again, and a solution like placing the bathroom radiator on the upper wall no longer works.

Then just place the shower right next to the window, if you want to let people peek :p

We have been living in this apartment for 8 years with a shower/window situation like this. So far, I haven’t felt like we are constantly being watched, although of course I don’t know which videos of us might be circulating online.

We have now finalized the bathroom layout as described, with the adjustment that the right side of the shower will be made as a glass wall. The lower shower wall will either be a drywall partition (then full height) or alternatively built from masonry, then half height with a glass panel.

This is fixed information, so Katja doesn’t spend time on it unnecessarily. I will definitely provide feedback on which of the criticized points annoy us going forward and which might not be as bad as initially felt here.

We can experiment a bit tonight. At the moment, I’m struggling with a new computer and don’t have any software installed.
