Hello everyone,

We have a small room in the basement that I would like to convert into a bathroom. The basement is partially above ground on one side of the house, but the room where the bathroom is to be created is below ground (on a slope). This room has a "window" connected to a traditional window well.

I am now considering whether to replace this window with a new one and renovate the window well using an "Aco Therm window well body," or—my preferred option—to block up the window and instead install a ventilation system with fans for air supply and/or exhaust.

The ventilation could be routed through a window in the laundry room (which is on the other "above-ground" side of the house). The exhaust air from the newly built bathroom could then be channeled through a duct with a fan, built into the former window space.

Another possibility would be to use an unused chimney shaft (although there are electrical cables inside) to exhaust the air.

What do you think? What would be the most sensible option? I’m happy to forgo natural daylight in the bathroom. The "Bayernlüfter" is designed for this purpose but is quite expensive.
