After recently selecting fixtures at the plumbing wholesale store and already being faced with somewhat high prices, we received the corresponding offer from the plumber yesterday. As mentioned, we were prepared and were not really shocked by the price indicated at the bottom right.
Still, I wonder if some items are really worth it.
For example, a built-in faucet with a spout for the bathtub costs €600 more than an exposed faucet.
Okay, that’s something you may or may not want.
What actually unsettles me more is the topic of bathroom furniture.
Are these pieces from the specialized plumbing store really that much better than furniture from general furniture stores or home improvement centers?
There, the vanity cabinet plus the washbasin cost €1200 (about $1300) and that’s not even in the higher price segment.
On top of that, you have the mirror cabinet and possibly a tall cabinet.
Unfortunately, the washbasins and vanity cabinets are usually specially matched.
Does anyone have tips on how to create a stylish bathroom without spending a fortune?

Um, with the moose model, there are also sinks available, but they are very limited and only compatible with their own products.
We chose countertop sinks during the selection process (for the downstairs bathroom) and at Reuter.de. They are quite affordable and offer an incredible range.

DerBjoern15 Nov 2013 14:15No, we didn’t get the sinks from Elchshop. We purchased them through our regular plumbing supplier. We don’t have countertop basins but wall-mounted ones. We make the corresponding cutouts directly into the countertops.
There are quite affordable washbasins available from plumbing suppliers, including some stylish options. Some models (for example, ours from Ker..g) are wall-mounted but can also be used as countertop basins if the underside is polished. However, this will likely require a cut-out in the countertop.
I wouldn’t buy a washbasin from Elch, and I would also avoid plastic ones, as they can develop odors after prolonged use.
When dealing with Elch, you need to be a bit creative; otherwise, it won’t work out. The advantage is that the same surface finishes are used throughout all departments—so you can equip a bedside cabinet with casters and use it as a bathtub shelf, or take the range hood cabinet and install it in a row under the ceiling.

So, we also have a washbasin with a vanity cabinet from Elch... it was even installed by the plumber... with a Hansacobra faucet on top... works perfectly...
In the guest bathroom downstairs, there is a washbasin from a hardware store... also installed by the plumber...
After 2 years, there have been no issues so far... no noticeable differences compared to "branded basins"...

Our kitchen fitter (carpenter) is custom-building a base cabinet for the sink and an additional wall cabinet to fit the sloping ceiling. When I compare price and performance here, these custom pieces are not more expensive than standard furniture, often offering the same or even better quality.
