Hello everyone,

The following item is included in the offer for our new build:
  • Supply and installation of basement exterior waterproofing, window wells, basement exterior insulation, and backfill protection (dimpled membrane with fleece) to be done by the homeowners as a self-performed task.

Savings of approximately 6000€.

The basement measures 10 by 8.5 meters (33 by 28 feet) and is fully below ground level. The unfinished basement height is 2.55 meters (8 feet 4 inches), with 5 window wells planned.

I would like to calculate the material costs for this, but I’m not exactly sure what materials are needed.
Can someone help me with this?

Is it even worth doing this work as a self-performed task?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Are you sure you want to take this on?

We insulated our foundation with perimeter insulation as a DIY project. It was only 30 cm (12 inches) thick over an area of 10.5 x 8.5 m (34.5 x 28 feet), but I didn’t find it enjoyable.

We paid about €500 (including adhesive) for the perimeter insulation. We didn’t need a drainage membrane.

Depending on your level of skill, you can definitely manage it. But installing the first boards took us quite a long time.

I recommend asking a building materials supplier for a quote on the cost of materials. You probably won’t save that much.

What kind of basement do you have?
In our watertight concrete basement, my rotary hammer drill doesn’t get very far – installing 5 window wells there alone would have taken me at least 2 days...
Are you planning to only glue the insulation or also use anchors? Then you’ll need special tools again.
If your basement is leaking, you can’t just blame the construction company anymore... That would be too risky for me...

Hi, sorry, we were on vacation.
We don’t have a waterproofed basement, the insulation will be glued.
