Hello everyone, I am new here and have a house south of Leipzig. I believe it was built in the 1950s or 1960s. It has a basement and two floors. Right next to the building, there are three shafts. These extend below the basement level, and I have no idea what they were used for. The shafts are made of brick and are connected to each other through openings. The inside appears blackened, apparently from use. Each of the three shafts is covered on top with a metal plate measuring approximately 60cm by 40cm (24 inches by 16 inches).
I took some pictures.
Maybe someone has an idea what they were used for?
Thank you very much

But the rainwater would infiltrate the ground, right, or am I mistaken?

If it was a storage pit, it would need to be sealed; a soakaway pit, of course, does not. Test it with rainwater.

It is probably a multi-chamber septic tank. First chamber for solids. Second chamber for suspended particles. Third chamber for infiltration???
Direct rainwater into the first chamber and then you will see what happens.

It's actually a pity; I would have found access to a burial chamber, a labyrinth, or a bunker much more exciting...
