Hello everyone,

After living in our new house for almost a year, we are now planning to convert a basement room into a hobby room. The prefabricated basement has external insulation. Inside the room, the walls are smooth concrete formwork on all but one side, and insulated screed has already been installed. All joints have been filled. There is no underfloor heating; we intend to use infrared heating or something similar since the room will not be used continuously. We are now wondering what the best materials are for finishing the basement. Cork flooring would probably be the most comfortable option, but I am unsure if that makes sense for a basement, so vinyl is our second option.

For the walls, either wallpaper or plaster is possible – the question is whether wallpaper makes sense in a basement, and if so, what type of wallpaper or plaster would be best suited. Do the walls generally need to be treated or primed first?

I look forward to feedback, suggestions, as well as tips and tricks.

Thank you and best regards,
Steffen

That probably depends a lot on the hobby.

Hello toxicmolotow,

The room will be used as an office, for table soccer, watching TV, etc., so not for sports or DIY activities.

Regards,
Steffen
