Hello dear experts,

I would like to ask for your opinion on the following situation:

Image 1:

Exterior wall corner with rough render and visible foundation

- On the building to the right, there is a base coat with mesh reinforcement.
- The lower area has been treated with a waterproof slurry.

Image 2:

Interior corner with metal shelf, carpet, and small piece of furniture

- On the building to the right, a topcoat (colored silicone resin render) has now been applied.
- The waterproof slurry is also covered by the render.

Question:
Now backfilling is planned and a drainage membrane (dimpled membrane) will be installed.
But what about the waterproof slurry?
Does it need to be reapplied up to at least 5 cm (2 inches) above the final ground level?

Thank you very much for your input.

Good luck

Hello,

the manufacturers provide standard details for this area that require sealing with a sealing slurry from the respective system. This is usually not covered with plaster but can be painted over.

Can you tell me the manufacturer? Then I can find the detailed instructions for you.

Hello Jann,

The waterproofing slurry shown in the picture is from MEM.
The plaster applied over it is a product from STO.

Is that what you meant?

Good luck,
Matthias

Okay, yes, that’s what I mean.
I’ll take a look at it later.
I would recommend using a slurry from Sto; they call it Flexyl.
But I need to check the datasheets more closely later.

Ok, thank you very much. So it is clearly leaning towards "waterproof slurry yes."

Out of curiosity, one more question (even though it doesn't directly concern me):
For the house on the left, only a drainage membrane is installed and backfilled, without waterproof slurry. That is incorrect, right?

A waterproof membrane behind the exterior wall is mandatory anyway. According to the new standards, a corresponding seal is also required on the top plaster layer in the base area.
Therefore, according to the current regulations, this would be incorrect.
However, many choose not to do this because it visually stands out, which of course is up to individual preference.

Best regards
