The lacquered natural horizontal bamboo engineered flooring we received is much more yellow in color than the sample we based our order on.

Question: does anyone have experience with color changes due to exposure to light? I’ve read that it may darken somewhat, but does it also lose the yellow tint?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

PS: if I had wanted to install formwork panels, I would have ordered those... 😡

Hello markaba,

Wood changes its original appearance due to sunlight exposure; this also applies to bamboo (which is actually a grass, not a tree). However, this change becomes noticeable only after some time and depends on the amount of sunlight the floor receives, so it won’t be immediately visible after installation.

Since bamboo flooring is available in different types and surface finishes (e.g., stained, steamed), it would be helpful in your case to directly compare the color and type designation of the sample (sticker on the back of the sample?) with the details of the ordered and installed flooring—if the sample is still available. Without a direct comparison between the sample and the installed floor, it will be difficult to make a claim.

Finally, a tip:
As a buyer of building products, you should always check whether the delivered goods match the order; so before installation, compare the product description on the packaging or delivery note with the product description in the order or contract.
