ᐅ Bathroom poorly planned — how to arrange it?

Hello,

I made a mistake in the layout of our bathroom that can no longer be reversed. We originally only needed 10-11 sqm (108-118 sq ft), but now it’s 13.5 sqm (145 sq ft). We have no idea how to arrange it now. Attached is a schematic floor plan with the wastewater pipes marked (the blue dots).

It should include:
- walk-in level shower (1 m (3.3 ft))
- double washbasin
- toilet
- bathtub (1.90 x 0.80 m (6.2 x 2.6 ft))
- 1-2 smaller cabinets for some towels

Our idea was to place either the bathtub or the double washbasin in the niche and build a drywall T-wall construction with the upper drain pipe, hiding the toilet and shower behind it, with either the double washbasin or bathtub in front. There are two windows on the right wall, each 1 m (3.3 ft) wide, all other dimensions are interior measurements. The lower window opens in the opposite direction (I only had a simple tool).

Since the space is more than enough for us, we also considered installing an infrared cabin for 1-2 people. But that’s where we run out of ideas. How could something like that be fitted in there?

Do you want an open or a closed shower? If you choose open, you should plan for a minimum depth of 1.60m (5 feet 3 inches).

I tried the Villeroy & Boch bathroom planner, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find a bathtub.

Yvonne, you need to select a different collection. The preset Subway 2.0 does not include a bathtub.

Regarding #23
In that case, you should swap the shower and the toilet because of the window, so that a) there is daylight when sitting, and b) the shower is not visible from outside.

@Jochen104 If it ends up like the T-version from #23, then it will be an open shower. Unfortunately, the planner from innoplus doesn’t offer a suitable shower, but the recess in my design is 1m (3.3 ft) wide and 1.75m (5.7 ft) long, so it should be enough.

@Neige Thanks, I already saw that yesterday, but looking at it afterwards with a 3D planner, it does get quite tight. You would really need to find a shower cabin that is deeper rather than wider, and that’s not so easy because for two people, the cabins are at least 1.2m (3.9 ft) wide, and then you only have about 75cm (2.5 ft) left for a toilet, so it does get a bit cozy.

@ypg Haha, I don’t need light when using the toilet; I prefer showering over bathing (my wife is the opposite). I hate how dark it is in the shower in our current apartment, so if necessary, some semi-transparent pleated blinds will be added and that’s fine. That’s why I deliberately chose the T-version as it is.

But then everyone will turn on the light every time for 2 minutes – is that really sensible?

I’m happy to discuss this again; it’s a valid point. But if I set aside the lifespan of the light bulbs regarding switching cycles, etc., when it’s dark, I need light anyway. This means that when using the restroom, I’m more visible from outside than when I’m inside the niche. During the day, most of the light will be offset by the photovoltaic system, so only the twilight hours remain. Well, I’m willing to accept that; after all, it’s not pitch dark in that corner unless you tile everything black. There are still about 2m² (22 sq ft) of window area. And even if I put in a 100-watt incandescent bulb, it would cost me just fractions of a cent per use :-D

But still, I’ll bring it up for discussion again. I suspect my wife shares my view, so that should be fine.

I was referring more to the wall thickness. Also, you should plan for at least an 80cm (31.5 inches) walkway.
For a T-layout, I find your bathroom too narrow. We have 351cm (11.5 feet) width and went with an L-shaped solution (you can find it several times here in the forum).
