However, he is not a fan of ventilation systems.
Here are the prices he quoted. Are there
1. Solutions that are more integrated into the wall or similar, to avoid additional height increases, and
2. Is the price reasonable?
Total area is 187 sqm (2013 sq ft), including about 40 sqm (430 sq ft) of an extension. The rest is spread over two levels in a town villa style.
There is a ceiling opening of about 9 sqm (97 sq ft) to the first floor, which is not included in the 187 sqm (2013 sq ft).

There’s no maintenance, the breeding ground for germs is probably more your toilet and sink, cleaning isn’t really necessary, and electricity consumption can be ignored—unless you need to plan your monthly budget down to 5€ exactly. And no one talked about “saving money,” but about gaining comfort.

In summary, such a ventilation system usually does not make economic sense. With 144sqm (1550 sq ft) of living space in my case, the annual savings amount to only 430 euros minus 43 euros for the electricity consumption of the ventilation system. So just 387 euros per year.

But yes, there is a note about costs (see the text). These are very individual, though. You can calculate electricity costs yourself, replace/cut filters yourself (I pay a small single-digit € amount per year for self-purchased filter mats, which I cut myself, including pollen filters as an allergy sufferer). Cleaning is needed only as required – if the controlled ventilation is running regularly, the need may not arise even after 10 years (based on experience).
So these are maximum costs, which can be reduced by up to 95% for maintenance if you are willing. But that kind of information doesn’t get exchanged at the local pub, only criticism.

I am not in a position to assess to what extent maintenance costs can be reduced; however, I have serious concerns about having no maintenance at all (statement by ypg).

I cannot judge to what extent maintenance costs can be reduced; however, I have serious reservations about having no maintenance at all (statement from ypg). In my opinion, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is NEVER economical (has anyone claimed otherwise?).
Even if filter costs are only a few euros (cutting them yourself), the electricity consumption is higher than the energy saved. (My central mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery uses about 30–40 watts continuously according to the datasheet, although I haven’t measured it myself.) The energy saved (as indicated by my system, which I converted to euros) was around €35 per year.
