Hello! 😀

As a homeowner with no prior experience, I’ve tried to educate myself a bit here.

It’s about a two-family house, semi-detached, built in the early 1950s.

The ground floor is occupied, and now the upper floor is going to be renovated and lived in by me/us. Since the apartment feels a bit small, we want to include the attic as well.

The attic consists of one finished room (still without heating, which will be installed later) and a "laundry storage" space. The floor is a solid concrete slab, and until a few years ago the roof was completely uninsulated. At some point, there was a temporary insulation with polystyrene panels.

If we want to use these rooms for living, am I correct that we would just install glass wool or rock wool insulation directly under the roof tiles in the laundry storage, attach a vapor barrier above that, and then fix drywall on top? Is that sufficient as complete insulation?

There used to be a satellite dish on the roof, with its mast passing through the tiles into the room and attached to the rafters with clamps. I would like to reinstall this, but that would interfere with the insulation, right?

What about the already finished room? I have no idea what kind of insulation is between the room wall and the roof. But I’m also not keen on tearing the whole place apart. Should I just leave it as it is?

So many questions...

Best regards
