Hello everyone,

During the renovation of a flat roof on a garage building, the parapet cap was replaced.

After completion, the concrete slab beneath the new parapet cap is visible in several areas.

Before the work, the parapet was designed so that the concrete slab was completely covered in the visible sections; the concrete was not exposed. No agreement was made in advance regarding a visually different design.

The contractor considers the current execution technically correct and justified by today's requirements (including higher build-up heights). The visible concrete does not pose a technical or visual issue.

From the client’s perspective, however, there is a clear visual difference compared to the previous condition.

Questions:
Is it common practice or considered state of the art from a technical standpoint to leave concrete visible on the parapet?
If the execution is technically correct: Is there still an obligation to agree beforehand if the appearance changes significantly compared to the previous condition (which was fully covered)?
How is this typically resolved in practice (constructively / in planning / communication) when higher build-ups are required?

For reference, I have attached photos (comparison old/new (image info / the daylight photos show the old parapet and the dusk photos the new one)).

Thank you in advance for your professional assessment.
